Shell crack and structural repairs
Shell repairs are material-specific. Concrete pools crack from ground movement and shrinkage; repairs range from flexible sealant routing for hairlines to epoxy or polyurethane injection for structural cracks that move. Fibreglass shells blister, craze and occasionally split at stress points; repairs laminate new glass into ground-back sections. Vinyl liners tear and pull from tracks, and beyond a certain age patching gives way to replacement.

Timing
When it's needed
When dye testing draws into a visible crack, when a fibreglass wall flexes or blisters, or when a liner shows tears and track pull-out. Repeated cracking along the same plane deserves a structural conversation before another cosmetic fix, the shell may be responding to soil or drainage problems that patching cannot outrun.
Never fully drain a pool without a groundwater and hydrostatic assessment, shells can lift out of the ground under external water pressure. Isolate power at the switchboard before anyone touches a pool light or its niche, and keep children away from partially drained pools and open excavations during repairs.
