Leak detection surveys

Detection is a process of elimination run in a deliberate order. A bucket test first separates genuine loss from evaporation. Isolation tests then split the loss between shell and plumbing. Dye testing traces flow paths at suspect points (skimmer box throats, return fittings, light niches, steps) while acoustic listening picks up escaping water behind the shell that no dye will reach.

Timing

When it's needed

Book detection when top-ups exceed the seasonal norm, when the auto-fill runs constantly, when the pump loses prime overnight, or when damp patches and unusually green grass appear near the pool. Chemical consumption creeping upward is the same story told a different way, replacement water dilutes everything.

Never fully drain a pool without a groundwater and hydrostatic assessment, shells can lift out of the ground under external water pressure. Isolate power at the switchboard before anyone touches a pool light or its niche, and keep children away from partially drained pools and open excavations during repairs.
